I have always loved the vintage look and as I was playing around in Photoshop, I found some cool techniques. I&#8217;m sure it&#8217;s similar to a ton of tutorials out there, but I wanted to post it anyway. If you have any suggestions, please let me know! The final product is here on the left, so if you think you&#8217;re getting something different&#8230;.well, you thought wrong!</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve always hated when I got to a tutorial and they do not provide the links to the images, brushes, etc. at the very beginning or throughout the steps, so I promise that I will make sure to do that through the steps! Don&#8217;t worry, you don&#8217;t have to pay for anything!</p>
<h2>Step 1</h2>
<p>First, create a Photoshop and create a new file that is 800 x 600.  Next, go download the piece of <a href="http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1225997">parchment paper</a> and the <a href="http://www.sxc.hu/photo/974097">typewriter</a> image. Open the parchment paper and place it into your new document.</p>
<p><a href="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_1.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-58" title="step_1" src="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_1-1024x542.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="542" /></a></p>
<h2>Step 2</h2>
<p>Next, add the following drop shadow effects to give the background of our photo a little depth.</p>
<p><a href="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_2.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-59" title="step_2" src="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_2.jpg" alt="" width="610" height="452" /></a></p>
<h2>Step 3</h2>
<p>Following the the layer styles, add the typerwriter photo to a new layer and adjust the size using the free transform (ctrl + t) to center the photo onto the piece of parchment. Then apply the effects below to that image layer. The color in the outer glow is f7c779.</p>
<p><a href="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_3.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-60" title="step_3" src="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_3-1024x564.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="564" /></a><a href="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_3b.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-61" title="step_3b" src="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_3b.jpg" alt="" width="610" height="452" /></a></p>
<h2>Step 4</h2>
<p>Make a copy of the first layer of parchment paper (ctrl + j) and move it to the top of the layer palette. Set the layer&#8217;s blending mode to &#8216;Multiply&#8217;.</p>
<p><a href="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_4.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-62" title="step_4" src="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_4.jpg" alt="" width="317" height="707" /></a></p>
<h2>Step 5</h2>
<p>Finally, go to Image &gt; Adjustments &gt; Levels (ctrl + l) and set the input levels to match the following settings. Then, select Image &gt; Adjustments &gt; Curves (ctrl + m) and use settings similar to the screenshot below.</p>
<p><a href="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_6.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-63" title="step_6" src="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_6.jpg" alt="" width="415" height="379" /></a><a href="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_6b.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-64" title="step_6b" src="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/step_6b.jpg" alt="" width="487" height="565" /></a></p>
<h2>Step 6</h2>
<p>You&#8217;re all done! Your image should now look something like the one below! If you have any questions or feel anything wasn&#8217;t clear, feel free to ask!</p>
<p><a href="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/finished.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-57" title="finished" src="http://josyah.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/finished-1024x558.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="558" /></a></p>
